Code of Conduct

The purpose of our Code of Conduct is:
  • to establish and maintain a safe, caring and orderly environment for purposeful learning
  • to teach students to respect themselves, others and their environment
  • to provide guidelines for members of the community (whether it be students, staff, parents or general community members) while at the school or any school related event

Because we are a K-12 school, our Code of Conduct involves raising expectations. We believe that:

  • staff and other adults in the building should model the acceptable behaviors that we expect of our students
  • behavioral expectations must be actively and consistently taught and promoted
  • the Code of Conduct should be clearly communicated to students of different ages and developmental levels, using language that they will understand
  • as students get older, they will demonstrate increasing personal and social responsibility and self-discipline
  • as students get older, they should be subject to increasing consequences for inappropriate behavior and be given increasing privilege when their behavior meets or exceeds expectations

Expectations for Behavior

Mayne Island Elementary Junior Secondary School promotes the values expressed in the BC Human Rights Code respecting the rights of all individuals in accordance with the law. At Mayne Elementary Junior Secondary School, we believe that you should treat others as you would want to be treated (or better). We believe you should respect the house of learning, the people and the land it sits on. We believe that you should honor yourself by doing the best that you can every day.

Be Respectful to Self ~caring about your learning and yourself~

Some examples include:

  • keep track of your materials as you move from place to place
  • take time to eat/start right away
  • clean up after yourself
  • make sure you check in if you are late or leaving early
